Zouk HI was created by Dr. Marie Alonzo Snyder who wrote the first English language book on Brazilian Zouk Dance. She has also been a modern dancer, choreographer, scholar and educator.
Born in the Philippines, Marie was raised in Italy and eventually settled in New York City attending New York University's Tisch School of the Arts earning her BFA and MFA in Dance. She started teaching Brazilian Zouk in Kona around 2015 and has lead classes at Kealakehe Elementary, Kona Performing Arts and the University of Hawaii. She continues to teach classes spreading the Zouk Aloha with locals and visitors alike emphasizing solid fundamentals and technique. She has trained and certified several Zouk teachers now offering classes in Kona, Waimea, Hilo, Kansas, and New York...(including local artist Stephanie Bolton & her husband Matthew!).
YOUR HOSTS: Matthew & Stephanie Bolton
Tuesday Latin Dance Nights are hosted by Matthew & Stephanie Bolton in an attempt to share their passion for the family-friendly, get-off-your-phone joy they discovered learning Brazilian Zouk Dance together.
They hope to bring a fun & free opportunity for their Kona community to experience the health, relational, & emotional benefits of social dance; a non competitive low impact sport that can be enjoyed at any age or fitness level. Along with these socials, they also host "Zouk-ations" and other dance retreats & workshops throughout the year at their studio, students affectionately call "Heaven" at Mauna Lea Manor in Holualoa. They have been opening their home to visiting instructors for dance residencies to help further advance the quality of social dancing on the Big Island since 2015.
