We are hosting a Paint & Sip on our lanai, featuring artist Marcia Ray, from Kamuela, on Sunday morning, September 23rd, from 10am-12pm. Marcia creates incredible works with oils, watercolor, mosaic, standing art screens, and wood carvings. Come hear the backstory on her process, and be guided in painting a cowboy hat with a haku lei. Tickets are $45. All materials will be included, and each person will get a drink of their choice.
The beautiful Paniolo murals in the Food Court in Kamuela were painted by renowned artist Marcia Ray. Marcia was commissioned by Parker Ranch to complete a two-year-long project that included researching the Hawaiian paniolo culture. She completed interviews (written and oral), collected photographs from cowboys and families in the community from the 1920s and on, and was able to paint the murals shown here from the collected documentations of her research. Speaking in depth with each Ohana, she was able to depict each Paniolo in their authentic shirt, cowboy hat, and markings and color of their horses. This history depicts a lifestyle that has changed dramatically in the last few decades with new technology and the use of ATVs in place of horses.
Come hear the backstories on this beautiful process, and see the names of each of the cowboys in the Cowboy (Paniolo) Line-up. For our workshop Marcia Ray will be helping you paint a cowboy hat with a haku lei. All materials will be included, and each person will get a drink of their choice.
Tickets must be purchased online and are $45 per person. Limited seating available.
