WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT KONA COFFEE?

Ideal conditions. Passionate care. Matchless taste.

Coffee is the world’s 2nd largest commodity (petroleum is the first), and its only U.S. location is in the Hawaiian Islands. Hawaii’s finest coffee grows on the leeward side of the Big Island, in the city of Kona. Kona coffee beans grow in ideal conditions (see below for details) in a 2 by 20 mile “Coffee Belt” along the fertile slopes of the volcanoes Hualalai and Mauna Loa.

After each handpicked harvest, Kona coffee farmers meticulously process their coffee through a series of drying, milling, and grading stages. The beans (at this stage green) are roasted in small batches. The smooth, low acidity, full flavor of Kona coffee is the result of this special care - corporate coffee farmers harvest with machines, gathering unripe and imperfect cherries as well as the good. Many of our customers who normally cannot drink coffee love Kona coffee.

No other coffee is handled so luxuriously from soil to sip – no other coffee tastes this good. That is why the Kona Coffee Council upholds a rigid standard of qualifying coffee as 100% Kona. That is why Kona coffee remains unparalleled.

We yield about 300,000 lbs annually - all our coffee is from our farm.

WHY IS KONA SPECIAL FOR GROWING COFFEE?

Most farms are between 1500 and 2500 feet above sea level, where the coffee cherries ripen under daily cloud cover. They are naturally watered with morning moisture and regular rainfall, and are supported by the world’s most fertile soil: volcanic dirt.

Naturally, tastes vary from plantation to plantation, company to company - many taste-adventurers are inspired to explore each one. Visitors to the Kona coffee region guaranteed receive a fine beverage and an unforgettable cultural experience.

IS THE KONA COFFEE CULTURE WORTH EXPLORING?

YES. Although Kona has hundreds of activities and attractions, nowhere else in the world offers this type of coffee experience.

The best way to experience Kona coffee is by touring the historical and old country towns. Coffee plantations and shops of all varieties dot the area. Maps are available at The Kona Coffee and Tea Company retail store.

Also, the annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival is a must-see. Hosted by the Kona Coffee Council, this ten day event begins on the first Friday in November. For more info, check out their website at http://www.konacoffeefest.com

Farm tours, retail locations, and visitor museums are offered by many of the larger coffee producers.
